The Leadership Vibe …a set of principles from which to launch leadership, communication, and success.

Vision is more than the ability to “see” into the future.  Leadership vision encompasses the ability to discern the emotional levels of workers and craft methods that motivate them individually and collectively.  It not only sees the goal, but also each member’s place, position, and payment for their part in reaching the goal.  Leadership vision includes foresight, wisdom, and the ability to conceptualize and interpret your team’s mission to create “buy-in.”  Leadership vision has good judgment and understanding in taking timely action, making quick and effective corrections when needed, and adequately rewarding cooperation.

In VIBE, we mean influence as the ability to motivate people based on tapping into their desire to personally do good work for themselves, for you, and for the team. It’s the way a leader can put people at ease and make them feel their needs are considered, they’re listened to and are part of a winning, productive team.

Whether in a leadership position or not, a person who is competent, confident, and professional exerts influence over their peers. A knowledgeable, easy-going, helpful, can-do attitude as you perform your duties attracts the confidence of others. An influencer often becomes a counselor. People come to them to discuss issues they may not trust with anyone else. They keep confidence, give sound advice, and encourage others to keep trying, keep learning, and as Rhonda likes to say, “Keep it pushin’.”

Balance is a practice. It is being able to cultivate your leadership behavior with self-awareness and the ability to adapt and adjust to the styles of those working with and for you. Mastering the delicate equilibrium between managing, controlling, and moving things and leading, motivating, and inspiring people. Skillful use of the awareness of people’s learning and operating styles gives you the upper hand in winning cooperation and bringing out the best in people’s performances. Balance means that you learn to deal with individuals on the level you encounter them, while successfully influencing them to willingly level-set upward to improved and more productive behaviors.

The “walk a mile in my shoes” theory is an excellent start to building successful relationships. Take the time and make an effort to assess situations from another’s point of reference. Leaders with the willingness and ability to engage others with cognitive empathy make great strides in building rapport and trust. A leader's ability to “hear” and “feel” what their team is experiencing facilitates communication and enables them to navigate through to what helps the team win and reach its objectives, as well as team members’ individual goals and purposes.
